(Q) What is :WUMPSKATE:?

(A) :WUMPSKATE: is an scene abberancy. First ran on Monday, September 15th, in Los Angeles, :WUMPSKATE: broke all the rules by the unseeming fusion of gothic/industrial music and rollerskating. Establishing the event as highly succesful with over 200 people in attendance, :WUMPSKATE: will be a monthly deviation from the standard nightclub experience. Promoter/DJs Wednesday and Xian and special guests bring you the chance to experience the cheese and joy of rollerskaing/rollerblading to your favorite music genres.

(Q) What kind of music will be spun at :WUMPSKATE:?

(A) The best kind. Electroclash, Gothic, Ethereal, Darkwave, Synthpop, Industrial, EBM, Teknoise and a wumpload of :WUMPSCUT: If you have a favorite track that you're just dying to hear, please post in the music page and enter your requests from there.

(Q) What is the World On Wheels? Where is it?

(A) The World On Wheels is a rollerskating rink in West Los Angeles. It is located at 4645 1/2 Venice Blvd, just east of La Brea, and west of Crenshaw. The World On Wheels is behind the Bank Of American building, attached to a bowling alley. Click HERE for a detailed MapQuest mapping of the area.

(Q) What about skate rentals? How much do they cost? Can I bring my own?

(A) The skate rental fee is included in the door fee, so once you're in, you can get your skates and go. You may choose to bring your own rollerskates or rollerblades, however the entry fee will remain the same.

(Q) Will there be any alcohol there?

(A) No, we will not be serving alcohol for what we hope are obvious reasons. What you do BEFORE the event is entirely up to you. Alcohol + rollerskating = very bad mess and we'd like to keep the rink free of blood and bone fragments, thank you. :P

(Q) Is there a dresscode?

(A) No. But keep in mind that rollerskating is a strenuous excersize. Encapsulating yourself in black velvet is probably not a great idea, and corsets will probably leave you with little room to move or breath. Use your common sense. And please, don't wear anything sharp that could possibily lead to serious injury of yourself or a fellow skater. If you show up wearing a collar of 6" spikes, you will be asked to take them off.

(Q) What about the shoes/boots that I am wearing when I enter? Where do I put them and other personal belongings while I'm skating?

(A) There are lockers at the World On Wheels for storing personal belongings, approximately 180. Each of them costs $0.50 to $0.75 to rent. If these spaces become insufficient we will arrange to put up a coat check for storing personal belongings to ensure that you leave with everything you came with.

(Q) Are we required to wear protective gear?

(A) No, you are not required to wear protective gear. This is not aggressive inline skating. You may do so at your own preference.

(Q) I don't know how to skate, but I want to learn! What is there for new skaters?

(A) Throughout the night our scene's resident professional rollerskating instructor, Chason, will be keeping an eye on everyone and offering advice and instruction to those looking a little wobbly. The music will be slow the first hour or so to warm everyone up. Additionally, there is a secondary rink inside the main rink with protected walls and plenty of room for new skaters to get used to skating. The first 30 minutes of the night Chason will be there readily available for questions and instruction.

(Q) So who do we have to thank for this event?

(A):WUMPSKATE: is the brainchild of the Los Angeles gothic industrial scene. Originally discussed on LAGoth.Net's Goth Talk forums, DJ/Promoters Xian (of Malediction Society, Black Cat Gallery, Hex Hollywood, and Disko.Nekro) & Wednesday (of Generation Death Radio, Bar Sinister, & Violane) collaborated to take this idea and make it a reality.

(Q) How the hell do you pronounce Xian?

(A) Fuckers...it's Xian: "zigh-ahn"
